Paul King resolved GROOVY-8822.
-------------------------------
       Resolution: Fixed
         Assignee: Paul King
    Fix Version/s: 2.5.3
                   3.0.0-alpha-4

I have added an extra guard where I expect the problem to be coming from but
haven't found a way to reproduce. I cloned the issue to allow us to consider
further testing.
