Description: Rather than following the original work for GROOVY-10393, the
plan will be to implement runtime version checks instead where needed and phase
out use of the deprecated for removal APIs in a future Groovy version. Further
discussion will occur on the mailing lists. This issue will put the old code
back in place and suppress warnings related to the "deprecated for removal" API
