Paul King commented on GROOVY-10666   Re: Implement multiple-assignment (aka destructuring) via getAt(IntRange) or iterator() There are classes with no iterator() method: def (_, y, m) = Calendar.instance assert y == 2022 && m == 5 We eventually wanted to support more sparse index values for such cases (we haven't done special '_' handling yet): def (_, y, mo, _, _, d, _, _, _, _, _, h, _, mi, s) = Calendar.instance println "$d/$mo/$y $h:$mi:$s" So, it there is some random index mechanism in the class it could be better than iterator(). There are data types where iterator() might not be the most efficient, perhaps: def (a, b, c) = 'abc' Certainly, for the case where we end up using the Iterable or Iterator getAt variants from DGM, it isn't very efficient. I wonder if it is possible to look for a getAt IntRange variant first? We might need to add DGM#getAt(Iterable, IntRange) which will likely use iterator.
