Currently, the reading logic is too complex and confused. For some lines of
code, we even don't know if they really need to exist.
We need to sort out the logic of the SeriesReader, figure out the meaning of
each line of code, draw a flowchart, and illustrate the key code paths on the
flowchart with examples.
