Squashed commits and pushed to master as a39eadce50e3bc37abc0e47564ef1698529bec81 and 1.7.x as 0f0207a045ef53157dac6c3d1d9daaee10671f52. Thank you for your contribution @mvrueden and especially for you persistence on testing! I will continue my crusade against `File`-based tests. Some tests predate Guava `ByteSource` and have not yet modernized. I have some pending commits but try to prioritize user pull requests. ;-)
