I was surprised that with this change, it didn't break on invalid magic value. 
Instead, it seems to have corrupted the start of the fcb sector with some value 
that is NOT the magic number, yet still loaded the config vars stored therein. 

Erasing the fcb sector seems to have formatted it correctly after that.
