More tests: 1) The problem does not seem to happen on an older i7 Intel iMac I have (MacOS Mojave, same JDK as MacBook Air, but x64 version). NetBeans 14 and 15 are as smooth as 13 in this case. I connected the iMac's mouse to the MacBook to make sure it is the same scroll gesture that is being used, and this is indeed the case (i.e. scrolling via mouse has the same effect as scrolling via touch pad). 2) The problem does not seem to happen for files that don't have syntax highlighting.
