With release team hat, I don't want to advise. I didn't want to be left with the decision of whether or not to do the revert either! I made that point multiple times. With committer hat, it might be nice if this didn't fail quite as hard. Depth limit and/or an actual message might be good? I don't use Gradle enough to make an informed call on what would be a nicer approach to handling this, or even whether there's an urgency to do so. The people who do should be advising.
