I think that today's npm executable is to centralized. You are limited to 1 configuration only. Usually on projects you might work with different node and npm versions, or sometimes the service might be under a docker container. I'm interesting in refactoring the NpmExecutable to work as an Api and add a Project docker proxy layer configuration on it.
