FWIW, I think how the "ideal" UI should look like is obvious (i.e. basically the same as VS Code has, there may be some more bells and whistles, but roughly around that lines). But, so far, I don't know how to implement that in the real NetBeans Swing UI. I can paint a (virtual) icon anywhere, but I don't know how to distinguish a click on that virtual icon from a click inside the surrounding text. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
