Actually in production you use one or the other. They are very similar (look at 
ecomseo controller and web.xml), just that SEO URLs are SEO friendly. 
OFBIZ-11229 is a pending effort to merge the version even in backend... 
OFBIZ-11791 would be the sequel...

We have no blocking issues in demos, but that's just demos.
