### Motivation [akka/akka-persistence-r2dbc#441](https://github.com/akka/akka-persistence-r2dbc/pull/441) (`perf: Avoid event serialization roundtrip`) is part of the akka-persistence-r2dbc 1.2.0 release, which is available under the Apache License, Version 2.0 as of 2026-10-24. It lets the journal write a `SerializedEvent` using its bytes, serializer id and manifest directly, instead of serializing the wrapper. It also deserializes `SerializedEvent`s received over pub-sub in `eventsBySlices`. ### Blocker `org.apache.pekko.persistence.SerializedEvent` was added to Pekko core in apache/pekko#3650 (2026-10-23) and first appears in the 2.0.0-M5 line. This repo currently builds against Pekko core 2.0.0-M4, which lacks the class, so the port cannot compile yet. ### Notes for the port - Until this is ported, `R2dbcJournal` serializes a `SerializedEvent` through `FilteredPayloadSerializer` (manifest `S`). The stored row then has the wrapper's serializer id, not the wrapped event's. - That serializer id is shared with `FilteredPayload`. #510 therefore checks the manifest as well as the serializer id when marking envelopes as filtered. - Upstream tests to port: `PersistSerializedEventSpec` (new) and the `publish SerializedEvent` test in `EventsBySlicePubSubSpec`. ### References Refs akka/akka-persistence-r2dbc#441, apache/pekko#3650, #510 -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
