@linghengqian Found it. Line 1 of .gitattributes has a UTF-8 BOM before the #. Since the BOM sits before the comment marker, git doesn't treat the line as a comment and tries to parse the license header as a pattern + attribute list, hitting (ASF) as an invalid attribute name.
