Closing this as stale, per the repository cleanup of long-inactive pull requests. Status: the last commit is from 2026-01-16, over nine months ago, the requested changes were never applied, and the branch conflicts with master. The underlying issue (passing the protocol into `UpstreamCheckUtils.checkUrl`) has since been reworked by the HTTP client and URL handling changes on master, so this patch would need a rewrite anyway.
