The drill by feature is specificially designed to work with dimensions. This is how people typically use it, e.g. going through vehicle sales by vehicle type > manufacturer > model > color, etc. Can you give us the use case you're up against? Not many people have asked to "Drill by" with metrics/dates. I could make up use cases for it, but it would be good to know some real ones. @yousoph @michael-s-molina @villebro might be interested in the discussion.
