Your diagnosis checks out against current `master`. `CurrentUserRestApi.pre_update` sets `item.changed_by_fk = g.user.id` on every self-edit through `PUT /api/v1/me/` and never checks whether the editor is the same row [[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/views/users/api.py#L48-L50). Superset already works around FK issues on user deletion. `SupersetUserApi` overrides FAB's `pre_delete` to clear `item.roles = []` before the delete, because otherwise the role association would block it [[2]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/security/manager.py#L140-L166). That override has no handling for `changed_by_fk`/`created_by_fk`, so a self-referencing row still trips SQLAlchemy's circular dependency check on delete. Nulling a self-referencing `changed_by_fk`/`created_by_fk` there would follow the same pattern without touching Flask-AppBuilder.
