Thanks @FrancescoCastaldi, and sorry this one sat. The scalar-control fix for #43576 landed on `master` via #43577 a few weeks back, so the `manager.py` half here is already covered. Would you want to reframe this PR to keep the engine-spec test additions, or would you mind opening those as their own PR?
