GitHub user AnzhiZhang created a discussion: GitHub Notifications Mechanism
GitHub's notifications are based on subscribed or not on a "topic" (issues, pull requests, discussions, releases, and security alerts). The author and participants are automatically subscribed to a topic unless they manually unsubscribe. <img width="480" height="220" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ee7669b0-413a-4382-ac29-a1e0bd8284e4" /> Also, you will be automatically subscribed if you have watched all activities from the repo, or watched the relevant type of event. <img width="650" height="676" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/9698d994-193b-42bf-a6ee-045a917a8b5d" /> <img width="870" height="624" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/9addbeb6-d7a2-4e46-9b30-4337da36bfd5" /> <img width="458" height="260" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/51399e24-68f2-46c4-beac-9606c30e011c" /> To receive all new "topics", watching is needed to automatically subscribe to a new one. A disadvantage is that all following replies will be notified. Need to manually unsubscribe if you want to ignore.
