GitHub user AnzhiZhang created a discussion: GitHub Notifications Mechanism

GitHub's notifications are based on subscribed or not on a "topic" (issues,
pull requests, discussions, releases, and security alerts).

The author and participants are automatically subscribed to a topic unless they
manually unsubscribe.

 />

Also, you will be automatically subscribed if you have watched all activities
from the repo, or watched the relevant type of event.

To receive all new "topics", watching is needed to automatically subscribe to a
new one. A disadvantage is that all following replies will be notified. Need to
manually unsubscribe if you want to ignore.
