Jens Geyer created THRIFT-6382:
----------------------------------

             Summary: Add net11 support
                 Key: THRIFT-6382
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/THRIFT-6382
             Project: Thrift
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Tutorial, Build Process, netstd - Library, netstd -
Compiler, Test Suite
            Reporter: Jens Geyer
            Assignee: Jens Geyer

.NET 11 is scheduled for general availability in November 2026, at .NET Conf
(November 10-13). Its release candidates come with a go-live license. The [.NET
support
policy|https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/platform/support/policy/dotnet-core]
says: "Go-live releases are supported by Microsoft in production. These are
typically our release candidate builds, just before the generally available
(GA) release." RC1 was released on September 8, 2026
([announcement|https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/dotnet-11-rc-1/]).

Add net11 support to netstd, along the lines of THRIFT-5902 for net10:
* The netstd generator gets a {{net11}} option (C# 15).
* {{ApacheThrift}} and {{ApacheThrift.AspNetCore}} add {{net11.0}} to their
{{TargetFrameworks}}.
* A new test project {{Thrift.Compile.net11}}. {{Thrift.Compile.net8}},
{{net9}} and {{net10}} stay, so net10 remains covered.
* The unit and integration tests, the fuzz tests, the benchmarks, the test
suite ({{test/netstd}}) and the tutorial ({{tutorial/netstd}}) move from net10
to net11.
* CI: the .NET 11 SDK for the netstd jobs and the MSVC image, and net11 in the
codegen matrix.

Follow-ups at GA:
* {{build/docker/ubuntu-jammy}} and {{ubuntu-noble}} install the .NET SDK from
{{ppa:dotnet/backports}}, which does not carry .NET 11 yet.
* The MSVC image is cached by a hash of its files. Its floating {{sdk:11.0}}
tag stays on the release candidate until the Dockerfile changes again.
