additional improvements suggested in YETUS-226 by [~aw]:

* It might be useful to mention that the output of the build step is in the
publish dir, since that is referenced later on. Folks that don't use middleman
may miss that.
* It'd be good to have directions on how to publish to the asf-site branch. Or
are we going to switch to auto-publish like hbase does? (probably better)
