I'm not really associated with nouveau, though I maintain nvtv, which is an independent tool for tv-out on nvidia cards. The main problem is that we do not know what most of the registers involved mean. If you do have access to an oscilloscope, most of them should be easy to find out -- just hook up the scope, change some registers, and watch what happens.
