I am therefore looking into getting a 3.12 kernel from the Oracle Linux "playground": http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/playground/latest/x86_64/ Would 3.12.6 be an appropriate version to apply your updated patch to successfully?
