Can you ssh into the machine from a different computer to see if there's
anything interesting in the logs? Or alternatively maybe the logs from previous
boots are available somewhere?
Unfortunately we need more info than "it doesn't work" to properly diagnose.
(BTW, "nomodeset" is equivalent to "don't load nouveau, or any other graphics
drivers".)
