Have you guys ever seen this video:

It's worth thinking about what can be done to make patching as natural 
as possible.  I was thinking a couple other ideas too:

- Grid mode where an adjustable grid is in the background and objects 
snap to the grid.

- alignment guides, where the system helps you line up with other 
objects by having slight gravity towards lines that correspond with the 
edges of other nodes.  (Like they do in Omnigraffle or Keynote if you've 
seen either of those.)

- object completion would be great too, especially with namespaces it 
could be really smooth to have an automatic drop down menu that pops up 
below the text input as you type.

- argument docs as well, where after you have typed in an object name it 
would pop up a box that tells you what arguments are expected.  Hovering 
over an object should pop this up again, so it's easy to connect things 
later on without having to check the help to see which inlets correspond 
to what.

Just some food for thought...
