Remember that OpenFlow uses TCP for transport. If you quickly dump many short messages, the TCP stack will combine them into one, though the exact number may vary each time.

Beware that as of 0.5, NOX failed silently if you tried to dump a large (>100 or so) number of flow mods, more than the socket input buffer was willing to accept. I got around this by rate-limiting flow mods, but the better solution would have been to push the EAGAIN (IIRC) error code back to the application and submit a patch. Not sure if this is still the case in 0.6.



I believe this has been fixed in 0.6.
