tou could definitely have multiple NOX instances running, and if a switch
loses connection to one it can connect to the other, if configured to do so.
However, network disruption depends on whether the state in the two
controllers (or the components running in the 2 controllers) needs to be
identical. NOX does not inherently support such kind of replication/state
distribution at the moment.

As a simple example: if you are running something like the learning switch
component, the disruption would not be critical as, in the worst case, the
backup controller would need to recreate the state for its switch component
(by initially flooding packets). So this wouldn't even necesarrily require
any coordination between the controllers.
There can be other cases however where the state in the backup controller
would need to be synched with that in the primary at all times.
