The purple ticket contest promotion was seriously botched. Outside of
Prince-land very FEW people even knew there was a contest unless they
looked at the label on the CD cover.
It would have been waaaay better if Prince had done some tv special /
music performance and it was advertised to win your own private party
with prince kind of thing. But it was not really promoted so I'm not
surprised that the tickets were not redeemed.
According to reports I have read only 1 of the 7 tix in the U.S. were
found, and 1 in Canada. Everyone else was a second chance / drawing
winner. Not surprising since the tickets were placed in teh first
batch of 750,000 manufactured/distributed... and as far as U.S. sales,
I don't think it's cracked that number (has it reached half?).
Universal probably thought they would have moved at least 750,000 by
the time of the contest deadline, which did not happen.
<Moderator: I honestly don't think the Prince really wanted to do that at
all. I am surprised the show even went down. -Derek>

I think that the NPGMC would have benefit greatly had they scheduled
the Purple Ticket part for a later date. This way they could make
announcements about the tickets as they were found... this would
subsequently cause a stir of all the fans re-re-re-purchasing the CD
trying to find the tickets!
Could have sold a million in the US the first couple weeks!
