According to reports, the atmosphere was tense as the night of the American
Idol finale unveiled. Prince was expected to provide a surprise performance
for the audience, but that had become questionable considering there was no
sign of him as the night was nearing its end.
This unpredicted inconvenience had tensed up host, Ryan Seacrest. He was
beginning to believe that at Prince's absence, he would now have to somehow
compensate for the time that was to be filled by Prince's performance,
reports WENN. This was coming closer to being true as the music star still
wasn't present at the Hollywood Kodak theater, as the show was coming closer
to its climax of revealing the new American Idol.

To be on the safe side, the host even stated, "No more surprises," to
prevent any disappointment if Prince didn't show up. But to everyone's
surprise, the singer presented himself at the last minute, leaving the
audience and the millions of viewers breathless.

"We're in a commercial break just before the surprise of Prince and he
wasn't at the Kodak Theatre, so what do we do?", was what Seacrest was
thinking during the commercial break before Prince was up for his
performance.

"He walked on the stage 30 seconds before he was to go live, sings and was
in his car before I toss to the next commercial break. He was there for a
total of five-and-a-half minutes."
