*Never one to be shy about his true feelings, "American Idol" judge,
Simon Cowell, is directing his latest criticism toward superstar Prince and
his behavior during the show's season finale last week.
The artist arrived at the Kodak Theater seconds before he was
scheduled to take the stage and perform the tracks "Lolita" and "Satisfied"
from his new album, "3121." Other guest stars, such as Mary J. Blige, Toni
Braxton and Al Jarreau, sang duets with the "Idol" finalists throughout the
two-hour program. Prince, however, chose only to share the stage with his
two female dancers.
As previously reported, host Ryan Seacrest said Prince scurried out
of the Kodak and was on his way up Hollywood Blvd. within seconds of
finishing his set, and without saying a word to anyone. Well, this didn't
sit well with Cowell.
"It just tells you how selfish he is," the "American Idol" judge was
quoted as saying by Contact Music. "He comes on, not a word - 'I'm not gonna
sing with anybody else, I'm not gonna say goodbye.' Thank you for your
generosity, Prince."
Meanwhile, at least one organization considers him worthy of praise.
The International Academy of the Digital Arts and Sciences is honoring the
music legend with a Webby Award during their 10th annual awards ceremony on
June 12 in New York City.
The award is handed out in recognition of an artist's visionary use of
the Internet to distribute music and connect with audiences. Prince was the
first major artist to release an entire album -- 1997's "Crystal Ball" --
exclusively on the Web. His groundbreaking Web site, NPG Music Club (
http://www.npgmusicclub.com) boasts more than seven full-length CDs of music
that are unavailable anywhere else.
"Besides being a musical genius, Prince is a visionary who recognized
early on that the web would completely change how we experience music," said
Tiffany Shlain, founder of The Webby Awards. "For more than a decade, he has
tapped the power of the Web to forge a deeper connection with his fans and
push the boundaries of technology and art."
Prince will be saluted alongside Webby Awards winners in 69
categories, as well as five other Special Achievement honorees -- the
founders of Myspace.com <http://myspace.com/>, Thomas Friedman, Mark Cuban,
The Gorillaz, and Internet co-inventor Dr. Robert Kahn.
