I hope all going to GMA tomorrow have a great time. I look 4ward to
reading about it here....I'll be watching at home in NJ- on my birthday.
(Hopefully my 2 year old will let me get away with that, lol:) I have friend
with TIVO for back-up) Wish I could be there, but early morning trips into
NYC just don't fit in so easy anymore. Can u tell I'm having some
pre-birthday blues? Which brings me to this....after following links to the
video clips in the last digest, I got into watching some of the videos I
have on my own PC that I really haven't even thought about in FOREVER. Got
into some thoughts after watching Prince on stage with James Brown in 1983.
Hopefully some of you remember or have this clip- the one where first James
brings up MJ then Prince. Our boy really did kick Michael's butt there
didn't he???! That was one bad ass 25 year old. So I was just thinking,
with all that has happened in both their lives and careers since, that was a
pretty telling
moment. Prince might not be on the "top" anymore, but he sure hasn't
fallen as bad as MJ. I think it's important to keep in mind that probably
to him- he still "won" so to speak. We all live in our own worlds as far as
time, peers, etc. I also just watched the clip from the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame where he did the solo for the George Harrison tribute, While My
Guitar Gently Weeps. It doesn't get much better than that. No one could
ever say he can't hold his own with the Rock Gods. Anyway, I guess my point
is that I'm still proud to be a Prince fan (after almost 25 years), no
matter what. Yes, he's done some silly stuff, and yes, I agree with some
that he doesn't always treat us well. But, he can still deliver-when he
wants to. I just wish he delivered more often!!! I need more real full
length CD's, I need a real tour at least every year or two! I accept that
he's gotten older, changed, and a lot of it was for the better (although I
sometimes miss the
cursing, lol), I just wish he tried harder to give us more moments like
those above to remember. Anyway, I had a couple of pre-birthday drinks and
am probably rambling on a somewhat unclear point! Hope some of you
understand where I was going with this. And I hope he puts on a great show
in the morning and gives all those who got up at 4am something to remember!
