We honor the life and music of Mr. James Brown in a 4 hour special radio
tribute on the "Upper Room with Joe Kelley and Gi Dussault". You will hear
music from all periods of Brown's illustrious career and we encourage you to
phone in or instant message us with your words and thoughts on this special
man. Many special guests are slated to appear to show their appreciation for
James. We also plan to spin tracks from artists who were heavily influenced
by James Brown.
A special treat is in store as we will also be joined by Alan Leeds, former
tour manager for James Brown and Prince. Leeds will detail his great
friendship and highlights of working with Brown. From the days of relentless
touring to Brown's final days, Leeds gives us an inside view in a truly
captivating interview. Alan also has some funny anecdotes about trying to
introduce Prince to James Brown at First Avenue in Minneapolis and Prince
soundchecking with James Brown songs.
In addition, Carlton J. Smith will stop by for a chat. Smith portrayed James
Brown in the 1999 film Liberty Heights that was directed by Barry Levinson.
Smith also has hosted musical tributes to legends such as James Brown,
George Clinton, and Frank Sinatra at the BB King Blues Club in NYC.
Gary Hines of Sounds of Blackness will appear and discuss the influence
James Brown had on his life and band. Hines grew up in NYC and saw Brown
several times in concert. His Grammy Award-winning band had the chance to
present Brown with an Appreciation Award onstage in Minneapolis.
Phenomenal musician Foley will grace our show to talk about Brown's music.
Foley played bass with Miles Davis and is a world-renowned producer as well.
