Relatives of
41-year-old Bay Terraces resident Linda Hayward Brown offered
NBC 7/39 some
clues as to the dynamics of a deadly domestic breakdown.

A leading local
psychiatrist told NBC 7/39 that he saw the implants and the
rock star as
possible emotional triggers.

Brown, who was known as Lin, was gunned down in
full view of her neighbors
in a courtyard of townhouses on Bear River Row a
week ago. Her husband of 17
years, Curtis Allen Brown, was wounded afterward
by police. Officials said
he was pointing his weapon at them when he was shot.
In petitioning for a temporary restraining order against Curtis, Lin cited a
brutal attack last month during which she said he threatened to cut out or
burn out her breast implants.

NBC 7/39 spoke with Lin's brother Alan Hayward,
who lives in Oxfordshire,
England, where Lin grew up. Hayward said Lin got the
implants last year.

"Lin had actually said, 'This is for me. I've got to do
something for me, to
make me feel better about myself,' " Hayward said. "So it
was a confidence
thing."

Dr. Mark Kalish, a forensic psychiatrist in San
Diego, said Curtis' violent
comments about Lin's implants suggest he felt
threatened by them.

"He probably focused on the implants in a symbolic way,
then physically
wanted to destroy them and thereby, exert his power over her
in a very
dramatic way," Kalish said.

For his part, Hayward thinks that when
Lin got the implants "could have been
the beginning of the absolute end."
Hayward said Lin's fascination with Prince began years ago.

"She went to
every single one of his concerts that she could go to that was
within reach,
Hayward said. "She always was there. A massive, massive
fan.... She couldn't
stop talking about him: 'He's so great . wonderful .
great voice. He's just
superb.' "

According to Hayward, Lin also claimed to have a telephone and
text-message
relationship with Prince and claimed to have received a birthday
bouquet
from him and that Prince wrote a song for -- or about -- her.

Sources
within Prince's organization told NBC 7/39 that there's no
indication that any
such relationship existed.

Kalish said that Curtis, who is now hospitalized
under guard and awaits
further legal proceedings, might have had issues with
Lin's fixation on
Prince.

"While it is distant and symbolic, it's still very,
very threatening to
[Curtis]," Kalish said. "I think he focuses on that
relationship as an
example of his not being in control of her."

Another
possible emotional point of contention in the Brown marriage, in
Kalish's
view, was that the couple was childless. Lin had two miscarriages
and an
ectopic pregnancy.

Through an attorney, both Curtis and his family have
declined repeated
requests for comment.
