Reminder:  Next PSO Community of Practice Teleconference Tuesday September 26, 2006
Topic: Discussion among states conducting census data gathering, i.e. on all school leavers.

The purpose of this call, requested by the community of practice, is to highlight states opting to gather post school outcome data on ALL school leavers with IEPs.   Although sampling is allowed for SPP/APR Indicator #14, many states are choosing to gather data on all leavers. We are pleased to highlight the efforts of three states with such census systems in place.

Pat Anderson (Connecticut), Jacque Hyatt (Idaho), Lynn Holdeheide (Indiana), and  will share their state stories.

We have asked them to consider the following questions:

  • How and when did you get started?
  • How do you gather exit/contact info?
  • Who does your follow-up contacts and at what intervals?
  • What data do you gather?
  • How is the data system set up... is it aligned with gen ed/other agencies?
  • What is  your response rate?
  • How do you determine that the responses are representative of your state population? (must report in the APR)
  • What have you done to locate the "hard to find" exiters (e.g. drop-outs)?
  • If you are several years into data gathering, how are you reporting and using the data?
