Announcements & Reminders:
NPSO is growing- In August Ryan Kellems joined the NPSO Center staff. He is
a recent graduate from the University of Kansas.
We recently concluded the search for a project coordinator. We had three
highly qualified and capable candidates to choose from. It was not an easy
decision! We are pleased to announce that Dawn Rowe will be joining us in
November as program coordinator and knowledge Development/Technical
Assistance Provider. Dawn is completing her doctorate at the University of
North Carolina- Charlotte with our friends from NSTTAC. Both Ryan and Dawn
have participated in the NSTTAC Institute, so you may be familiar with them.
We are happy to have them on staff.
NPSO Evaluation Survey- Please Respond - As part of our summative evaluation
activities we are surveying state transition contacts to learn about the
state¹s (a) post-school outcomes (PSO) data collection system, (b) use of
PSO data within the state, and (c) status relative to incorporating
Indicator 14 variables into the statewide longitudinal data system (SLDS).
We will use the information as a measure of our influence over time and to
identify potential products and services relative to Indicator 14.
Topic:
We want to share with you three tools created to help states analyze and
report and use their post-school outcomes data. The first is the NPSO
Response Calculator, the second is the Data Display Template-Revised and the
third is the District-By-District Table- Revised. Our partner, State
University of New York, SUNY, revised the DDT and DBDT to meet the language
of the new measurement table.
The NPSO Response Calculator is used to test whether the respondents to your
survey or interview represent the total leavers on key demographic
variables. The Response Calculator is available at
http://www.psocenter.org/analysis.html
<http://www.psocenter.org/analysis.html>
All three of the tools discussed below and the instructions for each tool
can be found at: http://www.psocenter.org/analysis.html
<http://www.psocenter.org/analysis.html>
Indicator 14 Response Calculator- Allows states to compare the similarity of
the respondent sample to the target leaver group whether that is a census
or a representative sample. The Response Calculator can be modified to
include additional disability categories or geographic regions. For help
modifying the Response Calculator, contact NPSO staff. We recommend running
separate analysis for each large district, that is a district with more than
50,000 average daily membership, to prevent skewing of the distribution due
to large numbers of respondents from that district. For more information,
see the full instructions to the NPSO Response Calculator.
A 2-minute Flash Demo showing how to use the Response Calculator can be

Data Display Template- Revised Creates four stacked bar graphs of the
post-school outcomes disaggregated by the demographic groups of gender,
method of exit, race/ethnicity, and disability. This tool has been revised
to be consistent with the language of the OSEP Measurement Table (May,
2010). The graphs are created in Excel 2007. Data are entered on two
worksheets. Information from these worksheets creates graphs that can be
used for reporting and presentation purposes. Instructions for the Data
Display Template- Revised can be found at:

District-By-District Post-School Outcomes Table-Revised- This document
creates a table of percentages and frequency counts of post-school outcomes
for each district in a state. This is an optional tool that states may use
to display Indicator 14 data for each district. This tool has been revised
to be consistent with the language of the OSEP Measurement Table (May,
2010). Instructions for the District-By-District Post-School Outcomes
Table-Revised can be found at:
