Hi
I am a brazilian researcher / master's degree student at University of São
Paulo.
I need to make some modifications in SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
because I am proposing a different security mechanism for SIP in my
master's degree work. Besides proposing, I need to compare those
modifications against the original SIP security mechanisms.
My proposal is, essentially, to prepare some specific header fields with
special values and insert some security verifications points in the user
agent logic (I am working in a endpoint-to-endpoint SIP scenario, not in a
SIP scenario with proxies).
In other words, I would need to modify the protocol in the message
preparation stage (if the SIP message to be sent is INVITE, then prepare
the message by this way; if it is ACK then prepare the message by that
way; and so on).
And also in the message receiving stage (if the SIP message received is
INVITE, then apply the verification "1"; if it is ACK, then apply the
verification "2"; etc.).
My initial intention was to get an open-source SIP softphone and modify
it. But I will still need to use an additional tool for the measurements.
But, if I use a tool like a network simulator, I thought that I could
reach both the goals: the SIP modifications and its evaluation.
Well, my main question is: could the NS2 help me reach those goals, like
described above ?
I studied "The ns Manual" and the tutorial "NS Simulator for beginners",
but I am not certain if the NS2 could help me.
Supposing that the NS2 could not help me, there is some tool which could
attend the two goals above ?
Best regards !
