Does changing transmission range affect the performance of a routing protocol?

I created two networks, one 1000x1000m with a 250m transmission range and
another, 200x200m with a 50m transmission range. I used 50 nodes in each of
these networks and scaled the positions of the nodes such that they are
relatively same for both the networks.

I run an ad hoc network routing protocol and calculate packet delivery ratio. I
get two different results. Everything else is the same for both the scenarios.
Does anyone have any idea why this could happen?

For several test simulations, the 200mx200m network's delivery ratios are
always less than that of the 1000mx1000m network.

I changed the transmission range by changing the RxThresh, Pt_ and CS_Thresh.

Thanks
