George,

As you're already aware, Microsoft is using the "build it and they will come"
mentality.
The fact that there is no multi-tasking doesn't bode well.
That and ticking off the development community in a robust smartphone market
isn't a way to attract developers.

Microsoft will soon be out of the Smartphone business after this fiasco.
By making the changes they have made, they have really ticked off many of the
smartphone manufacturers who are still saddled with WinMobile 6.x phone
inventory.
Suing Motorola will come back to bite them.

Microsoft are steadily losing market share while Apple and Android are gaining
market
share.

RIM is essentially holding steady with a very small drop in market share.

Palm smartphones won't be here this time next year.

When Verizon offers the new iPhone in a few months, it will be very easy to see
who will be left and who will be driven out of business.

And for the record, practically all of Microsoft's profits come from selling
Windows and Office.
Everything else, including Zune, Xbox and all that it does online, either loses
money or barely breaks even.
