Hellos apiece
I've just been playing some golden oldies on the pipes and letting my
early piping memories come to the surface.
It was interesting to see the recent postings and appreciate what a
debt we owe to the Cloughs but I think that Tom in
particular was rather more than a link in the
Dixon-Peacock-Bewick-Clough chain. It seems to me he had a
very accommodating and rather modern approach. "Herd on the Hill" seems
timeless. "Nancy" is another superb rant but feels very contemporary.
His variations on "Oh Dear.." (with what Tom Gilfellon
calls a reference to Tom's Alpine period) and the fact that "Silver
Threads Among the Gold" was one of his favourite tunes seem to
indicate that he was ensuring his music remained relevant to his own
time. What odds on the next thread being a detailed discussion of
"Silver Threads Among the Gold" I wonder?
   Cheers
   Anthony
