Hello all -

We are attempting to put in a centralized print server to support our
NT/2000, Novell and *NIX environments. Currently we have separate print
servers for each of the environments (which is a mgmt nightmare). The
majority of our printers are JetDirect connected. Since we will be
supporting a few hundred printers and 6000-7000 potential users, I don't
want to create this centralized print server without having some sort of a
failover scenario since a good portion of use will occur "after-hours" as
students are writing up papers and such.

I am not sure what the best method of providing the failover would be. The
options (as I see them) are either setting up a cluster or creating
identical machines and have one in cold standby waiting to be powered on in
the event of any problems. I am not experienced in deploying a cluster
solution so don't know what it would take to make one work for this scenario
and the other solution that I see is not very "seamless".

Any other suggestions on how to approach this problem and implement a
solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
