We're in the testing phase of replacing our production UNIX DNS server with the DNS server built into Windows 2000. We have noticed the problematic situation where it is quite possible to create two static host entries in the Win2k DNS which are identical in name, but with different IP addresses. It will even allow us to create two static entries with the same host name and the same IP address (although the automatic creation of the PTR record fails in this second case, albeit with an error message which indicates that the problem may lie with Reverse Lookup zone that cannot be found). Is there a way to ensure uniqueness of name and/or IP address? Thanks . . .
