This is where hot-swap RAID comes in handy.

If the System is on a mirror, shut down the machine, break the mirror, set
one drive aside, put in a spare drive, restart, and reinstantiate the
mirror.

This way, if you have an issue, you can remove the current drives and
replace the drive you set aside.  Instant rollback.
