I certainly will, Tony. I haven't given PSS a call yet because I've been
having too much fun figuring out how to upgrade 3000 workstations from an
outdated, no-longer-supported version of McAfee VirusScan to the new version
without disturbing the users. Then I'm off to turn water into wine. I'll
post my results here once I get some resolution.

Thanks again for the help. Always appreciated!!

-Chris

I can tell this is a difficult one for everyone as there aren't any other
people chiming in. :) I figure it has to be some kind of quirky thing in
Win2K but for the life of me, I can't figure it out. Oh well. I guess it's
time to burn one of my incidents with Premier support to have them tell me
the answer. I HATE having to admit defeat!

Yes, I guess that could be part of it, but everything else about the server
works. And I've built them in my support area, then moved them into the
production area, and there has been no difference between the two places.
So that kinda rules out a bad port.

could it be your network hardware? Maybe someone configured your switch
improperly. Or you have a bad switch port?

Not sure what else to suggest that you haven't already thought of, good
luck.

We run TCP/IP only on our network. We are running NT4 SP6a on all domain
controllers. DNS running (Unix-based) and WINS. WINS replication is
working fine and this server shows up in WINS. I've run BrowMon and DomMon
but they aren't showing anything unusual. Our WINS in simple hub and spoke
with 4 spokes. All machines report to the spokes and replication is
controlled by the hub. This has been working fine for 3 years with regular
maintenance. And it's only my Win2K servers but not all of them. Really
bizarre. Especially since I can build two of them side-by-side, and one
will show up. The other won't. I'm really at a loss.

What net protocols are you running on your network, and on this server? What
OS are your domain controllers? DNS or WINS or both? DO you have multiple
wins server and is replication completing succesfully between them? have you
run the "Browser Monitor" and "Domain Monitor" tools from the win2k resource
kit? Try these to see which systems have control of the master browser list
on your network. Anything in the logs?

No, the NIC is fine and everything else seems to be okay as far as
communicating on the network. This happens on quite a few of the new 2000
servers we build and, again, they are all built by 2 people using the same
build document and checklists. And it doesn't matter which person builds
them, it's sort of random which ones show up in Network Neighborhood.

Anyone have any ideas on why I can build 10 Compaq member servers all the
same model, same build, on Win2K Server using the exact same steps from a
checklist, and when I put them on my existing NT 4.0 network, some of them
show up in the browse list, some don't. Doesn't matter what segment they
are on as I can put 2 on the same segment, my server segment, and one will
show, the other won't. I'm just baffled. I've searched Microsoft Premier
Support and Google, but can't find anything. I've tried the hack in the
registry that I use to use for NT 4, but that didn't seem to work either.

As a side note, One of them appeared for about a day, then disappeared.
I've turned the Browsing service on and left it on for a while. No change.
I've turned it off and left it off. No change.
