This is how it works, because DOS polls the keyboard and other systems.

BTW, that 100% CPU utilization is 100% of available resources.  If you run
other applications, the OS will give them time slices and the DOS app will
obtain 100% of the remaining resources.

If this still is unappealing, you can try lowering the priority of the NTVDM
that the DOS box is running in.

We have a homebrewed DOS application.  Our platform is Windows 2000 SP1.
Every time the application opens up, the NTVDM process runs at 99% CPU
utilization.  When the application is closed, CPU utilization goes back down
to 1%.

Is anyone aware of ways to either modify the DOS environment or any third
party apps such that the DOS app does not monopolize all system resources?
