I've recently started experimenting with the Recovery Console on one of my
test machines. The first time I installed it I was unable to logon. It
wasn't until I changed the local Administrator account that it started
working.

I investigated the reason why I was unable to logon and it appears that the
recovery console does not support at least some (possibly all) of the
special characters. I reset the password to 'inthel@b' and again, I could
not logon.

I created a slipstream of Win2k Server Sp2 and reinstalled the Recovery
Console with the same result. I have been unable to find any TechNet
articles highlighting this problem.

This could have some serious drawbacks in organisations like ours that use
very complex passwords, especially if the server has since been promoted to
a Domain Controller!

Has anyone else seen this?

Regards

Steve
