We are currently Installing some new Windows 2000 servers for Our SMS Site and I have
some Performance Question. We currently use HP Lh4 Servers with Raid 3si cards. We
have 12 9 gig drives. I just found out we are creating 2 Arrays and one global hot
spare. Then Creating 1 4 gig logical drive Raid 1 and then 2 other logical drives both
raid 5 with what is left over. Then after windows 2000 Is installed the 2 local drives
are set as a volume set. My first thoughts would be that creating a volume set would
take up more resources then to configure the arrays in the hardware to use only one
logical raid 5 drive. I am looking for documentation on the Volume set and Software
raid and how much overhead it has on the server??

Any help would be appreciated

My current standard I am trying to incorporate would be to create 1 8gig mirror set
for operating system and 1 70gig raid 5 drive for data and applications.
Any one have any documentation as to what is the best way to configure these drives to
perform to there max.. with some redundancy.

Let me know

Matt
