Hi list,
I have a particular domain which is split into two sites with a server
in each site. In site 'A', the first site, everything is running fine.
In site 'B' I seem to be having netBios/Domain controller problems.
The topology is as such:
company.com
dom.company.com
Site A Site B
Site A and B are connected through a 64k VPN.
I have an IP connector and DNS is running fantastically. I have Exchange
server running and that is working a treat.
The pre-windows 2000 domain name is DOM
Server in site A is called sitea01 and server in site B is called
siteb01.
Site A's subnet is 192.168.1.0/24 and Site B's subnet is 172.16.1.0/24
I do not have WINS running but I do have LMHOSTS files on each
workstation. NetBios seems to be okay, but I'm not sure.
The workstations are windows 98, they get a a DHCP address and they can
ping the servers fine.
Enough of the background, here's the problem:-
Whenever a 98 workstation in Site B logs on to the Domain, it takes a
lot longer than those in site B. When users in Site B are asked to
change their passwords, it fails and the users gets the error message
"The domain controller for this domain could not be found".
It seems like the server in Site B is not acting like a domain
controller, even though it has the ADS service running. 2000 clients are
working a treat.
What could be wrong ?
Thanks in Advance
Adam Romain
