Hosts files are bad, use DNS. If you must use a hosts file, then remember
it's just as the name says, hosts, not networks. Each server, or virtual
server, needs to be individually listed.

I have to ask, why are you using hosts files in this day and age?

Subject: Hosts File Usage

Is there a way to edit the hosts file on a client machine to modify all the
prefixes for a particular site?

Way I have it now:
192.168.0.100 site1.server.com
192.168.0.100 site2.server.com
192.168.0.100 site3.server.com

Way Id like it:
192.168.0.100 *.server.com

Ways Ive tried it (Unsucessfully):
192.168.0.100 *.server.com
192.168.0.100 .server.com
192.168.0.100 server.com

Is this possible? Ive tried using wildcards but it doesnt seem to work.
Thanks.
