Well,
If anyone is interested, I figured it out. You can not install Portal Server
on a server if that server already has a web page setup on it. Shutdown the
existing web page and portal server error goes away.

Subject: Sharepoint Portal Server

I hope there is someone that has experience with this software. I have an
error message coming up every time I open up the Share Point Portal Server
Console. It says, "Unable to open the SharePoint Portal Server named
Servername". I found an article regarding this error message on MS
knowledgebase. Q291592. This article explains that the error is caused by
the proxy settings in my internet explorer. The problem is I do not use a
proxy server nor do I have a proxy server even setup on this particular
server in internet explorer. Does anybody know what else is causing this
error?

Thanks all

Ed
