Very true. The target audience has to considered. I normally only work for big clients, or very desperate clients. As I would much rather play then work. That helps to dictate why I charge so much. Add to that, most times when I go into a job I already know how to fix it, and get the job very quickly. Verses hiring someone who might have to learn as they go. In many occasions I am cheaper then that person.
"Example" I did a job a few months ago in Georgia [1], rebuilt 3 servers and some other stuff in a domain that had been very badly upgraded. They had been down for over a week with 2 different consultants on site. Neither of them were able to fix the problem, I was brought in by the second consultant because I already knew what the problem was. 5 hours later they were up. 5 hours from me vs. 50 from the other 2 consultants, and about 100 from the first group they hired to perform the upgrade. [1] started it in the hot tub, then got out to finish and watched a movie while I worked. --Kevinm M, WLKMMAS, UCC+WCA, And Beyond He's a Dentist, a Detective, a MindReader, No He is in IT..... -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Elkins, Justin Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2002 10:20 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: Consultant Costs This really depends on where you are and who you are doing the work for. I have been in Wyoming and Montana where they are unwilling to pay high dollar amounts unless they are very large. This leaves you with about 5 businesses in each state. I have charged as little as 50 for Gov't to as much as 150 for bank systems. But its beautiful so as long as I buy food its ok. -----Original Message----- From: John Martinez [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2002 11:05 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: Consultant Costs Hi, What are you senior network consultants charging per hour? Just a ballpark figure please. I was just asked this and wasn't ready for it hehe. I want to be ready with a counter offer. I'm going to be doing all levels of IT support for a small company. Thanks for your honesty.
