We used to robocopy the files to a backup server and then use Backup Exec to run a tape on that server locally. We now use the same procedure, only with ntbackup instead cause the version of BE we have does not run on 2000. This resolved 99.9% of the errors and also got us a easy way to grab a file from yesterdays backup without spinning up a tape.

BE fails to easily IMHO. If it misses a file, it is failed. I have seen servers that "fail" every night. It looks like hell in the program view, but it isn't bad like it looks. -----Original Message----- From: Ed Esgro [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2002 5:50 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: Backup Exec AGAIN I know it doesn't make sense. It actually isn't failing. It is just giving you a failed status because it may have missed a temporary file or some non important file. Sometimes it may even think a file is corrupt and also give you a failed status. If you are not comfortable with the failed status, check over the log, look for any messages that start with ^^^^. Then determine if the files look important to you. If there is a major error after the ^^^^ characters ie. (drive not responding). Then you have to figure out what is going wrong, but if it is a temp file that isn't getting backed up. No big deal. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2002 8:45 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: Backup Exec AGAIN ok somehow logically that doesn't make sense to me, i have looked at why, can't see anything so it completes but still says fail? It could be many things that make it fail. Open up the log for that job and look for the ^ character, that character usually will tell you the reason for failure. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2002 2:18 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: Backup Exec AGAIN could someone please explain to me that once it has done the backup, it verfies that it's done the incremental backup and yet at the end of the log it says Job ended: Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at 10:12:27 PM Job completion status: Failed why?? ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------ You are subscribed as [email protected] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
